Korankei began in 1634 with the planting of maple trees initiated by monk Sanei of Kosakuji Temple. Since then, the number of maple trees has increased and walking trails have been developed by the local people.
In 1953, the symbol of Korankei, the Waitsukibashi Bridge, was constructed, and in 2007, a new bridge was built. The name “Korankei” was derived from the phrase, “The fragrant breeze from Mt. The name “Korankei” means “mountain air” or “mountain air is stormy air.
