The Chita Peninsula and Tokoname area is home to Central Japan International Airport Centrair, the air gateway to the Tokai region. In summer, the area attracts many bathers. The offshore island of Nichinaga Island is also famous for its octopus.
The Chita Peninsula and Tokoname area offers tourist attractions such as Minamichita Beachland, Uchiumi, and Tokoname; sightseeing events such as the Daimyo Gyoretsu (feudal lord's procession), Saburi Pond Plum Festival, and Handa Float Festival; and local delicacies such as chikuwa, tebasaki, and hitomabushi.
The Chita Peninsula is famous for its sea-related tourist attractions, including Uchinomi and Sankai beaches, which are strongly associated with summer. Gorgeous and spectacular fireworks displays are also held in summer. The area is also famous for its delicious seafood and hot springs, and is a great driving course with a view of the sea throughout spring, summer, fall, and winter.
The Chita Peninsula includes Hinaga Island and other nearby islands. The Chita Peninsula is also called the "Monozukuri Peninsula," and is famous for its pottery, with some 3,000 old kilns in Tokoname, and there is a "pottery walking trail" along the coastline.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), the area was famous for its fine sake, called "chugoku-shu" (Chinese sake), and visitors can taste sake at the Kunizakari Sake Culture Museum, where the history of the brewery remains. There is also the Tomato Memorial Museum, which introduces the founder of Kagome, famous for its tomato ketchup.
The northern area of the peninsula is also known as an industrial area, and is lined with industrial complexes, including the Nippon Steel Corporation's Sumitomo Nagoya Steel Works, which creates a fantastic scene at night.
As a seaside sightseeing and lodging area, it is famous for its delicious seafood, so much so that it has been introduced on television. The octopus of Hinaga Island is a nationally famous source of octopus, and inns distributed throughout the peninsula offer fresh, sumptuous cuisine from the surrounding waters.
A hot spring bath with a spectacular view of Nagoya Bay will heal both body and soul. For families, the sea lion and dolphin shows held at Minamichita Beachland and Minamichita Toy Kingdom are very popular with children. In spring and fall, you can also enjoy Minamichita Green Valley with its field athletic facilities.
In summer, the Minami-Chita area is crowded with people at the many swimming beaches. The Uchiumi and Sankai beaches are the most famous beaches in the Chubu area, and the Uchiumi Chunichi Fireworks Festival, which can be seen at the Uchiumi Beach on midsummer nights, offers the luxury of lying on the beach and watching fireworks.
The Chubu International Airport Centrair is located in the northern part of the Chita Peninsula, making the area a major transportation hub for the Chubu region. The Minami-Chita Road connects directly to the southern part of the peninsula. The Nagoya Expressway is also conveniently connected to the Nagoya area. When it comes to marine resorts, Minami-Chita is the place to be in Chubu.
