Pottery Trail (Yakimono Sanpomichi)

Historical scenery of a town with kilns

This is a model course for sightseeing in Tokoname City, known as one of the six oldest kilns in Japan (Tokoname Kilns) and the largest producer of beckoning cats in Japan.

This attractive course on the theme of ceramics was spontaneously generated, and visitors can experience the history and culture of ceramics by taking a stroll while viewing brick chimneys and a series of pottery factories.

Scenery of the Showa Period

The narrow, winding, and undulating course of the pottery walking trail has not been developed, and the remains and the scenery of the former townscape still unfold today.

In the hills of Sakae-cho, many ceramic-related facilities built before the mid-Showa period remain, such as climbing kilns, brick chimneys, and factories with black board walls. Unique spots such as Dojikanzaka (earthen pipe slope) are also attractive.

Course A - Enjoy the World of Ceramics on the Royal Route

Course A of the Yakimono Walkway is a route that allows visitors to fully enjoy the world of ceramics and porcelain.

Walking about 1.6 km, you will visit such places of interest as the Tokoname City Ceramics Museum and the Takita House, a shipping agent. The course is a path where you can enjoy the unique scenery of Tokoname, including the “climbing kiln,” which boasts one of the largest scales in the country.

In particular, the “earthen pipe slope” is a unique slope paved with earthen pipes and shochu bottles that will delight visitors.

Visitors can also enjoy visiting photo spots and cafes while experiencing the history and culture of Tokoname ware. It is a charming walking course surrounded by beautiful ceramics.

Course B - Knowing and touching pottery expands its appeal

Course B starts at the Ceramics Museum and takes visitors up a small hill in the city center, where there are many facilities to visit, including the INAX Live Museum.

While enjoying the maze of alleys and picturesque streets, visitors can learn about the history of Tokoname’s pottery industry and ceramic art. It is a fascinating walking course that will tickle your spirit of exploration.
